Jim MacLellan, Forum 21 Director and past Director of Trade Development for the Port of Los
Angeles, will present “One Hundred Years of Trade though the San Pedro Bay.”
Jim’s talk covers the dramatic growth of trade through the San Pedro Bay over the last century
and examines periodic surges, a prime example being WW I and its aftermath during the
“Roaring Twenties.” A look at the main markets and products then and now uncovers some
surprising facts and trends, and a few key trade products reveal the historic implications for local
and regional economy.
In cooperation with the SPBHS, Jim conducted new research this past
year in our local archives and in the City of Los Angeles Archives.
